KABIR BEDI

Kabir Bedi was born in Lahore, Punjab, India. The Bedi family, very tolerant in terms of ethics and religion, had strongly committed themselves with the struggle for independence from British colonial rule. Kabir’s father, Baba Pyare Lal Singh Bedi, was a Sikh author and philosopher, while his mother, Freda Bedi, an English born in Derby, became famous for being the first Western woman receiving investiture in Tibetan Buddhism. Kabir has starred in over sixty Indian films, but his stature soon featured an international dimension. He was, in fact, one of the few actors who, starting from India, starred in in numerous Hollywood television series, and even in a 007 movie alongside Roger Moore becoming a great star also in Europe. International success came thanks to “Sandokan” (1976), in which he played the part of the protagonist, the romantic Malay pirate character that came out of the pen of writer Emilio Salgari. In recent years, Bedi has participated in numerous Italian TV programs, including L’isola dei famosi” and Un medico in famiglia.
He collaborates with the Times of India and Tehelka on political and social issues that affect the country. He also debates on these issues on Indian national television channels. He is also the Brand Ambassador for Rotary International South Asia, for their teaching program, as well as for Total Literacy Mission in India and South Asia. By decree of the President of the Italian Republic of June 2nd, 2010, Kabir Bedi was officially appointed Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Kabir is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He runs a film company of Indian and international films, and lives on the beach in Juhu, Mumbai.
Since 2018, he has been the Global Ambassador of Care & Share worldwide, attracted in particular by the Italian spirit of the organization and its mission to allow Indian children at risk of marginalization and abandonment to make the arduous journey “from road to school”. On January 4th, 2019, he inaugurated the Anganwadi of Bagath Singh Nagar in Hyderabad and in the spring of the same year he came to Italy for a promotion tour to raise awareness for the cause of Care & Share. During this week of promotion, he touched various cities in the north and the south of the peninsula, talking about our mission and activity in India also on national television broadcasts.
